Getting started
Date: | Saturday, October 12, 2024 |
Start time: | Check-in is from 8:30-9 am. The hike will begin at 9am. |
Location: | Meet at the Harry Hampton Visitor’s Center at 100 National Park Rd, Hopkins, SC 29061. For Google Map directions, click here. |
The plan: |
Check in at the Visitors Center by 8:45am. There is no fee to park. The hike includes the 2.6 mile boardwalk loop plus some to all of the Weston Lake Trail (depending on weather and group). Refer back to the map on this page for additional detail on the route. |
Est. finish time: | The hike will end back at the starting point between 12-1pm. |
Pets: | Well-behaved dogs are welcome on a 6 ft. lead, but be mindful that not everyone is a dog-lover; keep your pet under your direct control at all times. |
What to bring
Clothing
- comfortable, loose-fitting hiking clothing, not made of cotton
- waterproof shell or windbreaker
- wool or synthetic sweater (if it is chilly)
- good walking/hiking shoes or boots (unless you are one of the brave barefoot hikers!)
Food & water
- 1 quart of water
- Snacks and a lunch for the trail
Other items you may want to consider
- Cash for parking and post-hike refreshments
- cell phone
- camera
- personal first aid supplies – aspirin, band-aids
- sunscreen
- bug repellent, just in case
- trekking poles or hiking sticks
