Born 1968 in North Carolina. Grew up in Washington D.C. area. Began taking day hikes with family at 4. Fell in love with the idea of backpacking first time I saw a backpacker. Went on first overnight at 12. Hiked southern half AT in 1986 and northern half in 1991. Have hiked all over US since then. Completed Georgia loop summer 2021. Ph.D mathematics 1995 from George Washington U. Currently professor of mathematics at Iowa State University. I am autistic and currently being treated for PTSD.
